Jaylene Benggon Chung and Charlene Nahneen Kula Gibbs are best friends.

Their mothers are from the Kadazan-Dusun tribe in Sabah, Malaysia, and both immigrated to the United States in their twenties. Despite growing up on opposite ends of California, Charlene and Jaylene met occasionally at their parents’ get-togethers, were penpals throughout childhood, eventually reconnected in Los Angeles after college, and now live an eight minutes’ drive apart. They both love learning new things, eating food, and making each other laugh.
